Traditional Bingo Phrases

You may be familiar with bingo and some of the traditional phrases which are used, like “unlucky for some-13” and “Clickety Click-66”. Most of the common phrases originated from the East End of London as they are cockney rhyming slang. Below is a list of some of the most used phrases which you may come across when playing online bingo sites with no deposit.

Number 1- “Kelly’s eye”- this phrase refers to the Australian gangster Ned Kelly who had only one eye.

Number two – “one little duck” this is given due to the shape of the number 2 as it resembles a duck or a swan. In addition to this number 22 is often announced with the phrase “two little ducks”.

Number 8- “one fat lady”- another phrase which is used due to the shape of the number, the number 8 looks similar to two segments of a large ladies body. Number 88 is often called out with the phrase “two fat ladies”.

Number 9- “doctors orders”- during WW1 a pill known as the ‘number 9’ was given out as a laxative.

Number 17- “dancing queen”- a few lyrics of the famous Abba song which continues “dancing queen, young and sweet only 17”.

Number 29- “rise and shine”- this is simply a rhyming slang phrase.

Number 45- “halfway there”- the traditional 90 ball game includes balls ranging from 1 to 90, 45 being half way there.

Number 57- “Heinz Varieties”- the famous Heinz brand traditionally made 57 products.
Number 59- “the Brighton line”- the London to Brighton bus was always number 59.

Number 64- “red raw”- another of the rhyming slang phrases, “The Beetles” is also used, a famous Beetles song was titled when I’m 64.

Number 90- “top of the shop”- the highest possible number in a game of bingo.
